Over the years I have had hundreds of companies contact me looking for a new digital marketing agency to help with services such as website design, SEO and PPC. The experiences with these calls have been very different so I decided to share some of the mistakes companies make when contacting us looking for a new agency.
1. Not Having A Budget
This is a big mistake. When we ask for a budget this isn’t so we can charge you the most for your project it’s so we can come up with a digital marketing strategy for your business. A business with a budget of £500 a month will have a very different strategy to one with a budget of £5,000 a month. When we know what your rough budget is we can come up with a strategy that will not only bring you in new business but meet your financial plans. When working with an agency to manage your digital marketing they are becoming a part of your team so knowing this key information is critical.
Everyone has a rough idea of what they want to spend so when you contact us think about what your business can afford to invest. Even saying something like I have a budget of around £500 a month would mean we can look into which marketing strategies will give you the quickest return. For example can we setup both a PPC and SEO campaign or for your particular business we need to start with just one and then expand once you are seeing a good return or does your budget mean that we can setup multiple campagins to begin with?
Even a PPC campaign will be setup differently based on the budget and industry you are in. There is no point us researching a £300 a day campaign if you are only wanting to spend £10 a day.
Supplying a budget means we can help you in the best possible way.
So what information should you know when looking for a new agency?
- A short brief of your business and what you are looking to achieve. Who are your target customers? What are your key products / Services? Where in the country do you want to target?
- A budget. Think about what you want to invest in marketing on a monthly basis.
- Set targets – think about how many calls or sales you need to make to marketing your business a good investment.
- Tell us about previous marketing campaigns.
- Tell us about any timelines you have for your goals.
2. Having A Fast Turnaround Time
This is a common one, please don’t expect us to provide an exact quote over the phone. It takes time to analyse your website, look at your competitors, analyse any previous campaigns, speak to potential suppliers and complete the research we need to do to make sure we can deliver on your expectations and budgets.
3. Withholding Key Information
We get lots of requests from businesses that would like us to audit the websites, Google Ads and Google Analytics accounts. Which we absolutly love to do so we can work out what we can do to improve results. When it comes to discussing these results we are then given lots of information about internal politics, reasons things have been done in a specific way in the past, objectives that weren’t previously disclosed. It’s best to give us all the information at the start as it might dramatically change our suggestions.
When looking for a new agency, you are looking for a partner to work with and you should look to start building this relationship at the start. It makes things easier for us to do the best possible job and help your grow your business.
If you’re looking for a new digital marketing agency to help your business grow, give us a call we would love to speak to you.
